Our clinical lead, Dr Tim Harrison, is moving on after thirteen years at Sobell House. Tim will be starting an exciting new role based in Jersey, helping to establish an island-wide integrated palliative care service. His skills, kindness, and good humour will be much missed at Sobell House.
Taking over from Tim in the interim will be Professor Bee Wee. In this role Bee will provide the overall strategic clinical leadership for Sobell House and our palliative care services with support from the other senior leaders in the service.
Originally from Malaysia, Bee qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1988, trained in general practice in Dublin, then moved into palliative medicine in Ireland, Hong Kong and the UK. Bee has been working as a consultant at Sobell House for a number of years and is well regarded as a leader in palliative care. She is the National Clinical Director for End of Life Care for NHS England and NHS Improvement, Associate Professor at University of Oxford, and Fellow of Harris Manchester College. She has held a number of leadership roles in palliative care which have helped to shape and improve palliative care worldwide.
Recently she was awarded the Presidential Medal for Person-Centered Healthcare by the European Society for Person Centered Healthcare, Founding Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management and Honorary Doctorate of Science by Oxford Brookes University.
Bee says: “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to take on this leadership role, and to be playing my part in continuing our tradition of providing excellent palliative care in service of our patients and their families across Oxfordshire, and supporting colleagues within and beyond Sobell House to do so too.”
