Take a look at the wonderful Google 360 tour of Sobell House created by the talented architectural photographer, Nikhilesh Haval.
The tour, shown on the right, has been created as part of Nikhilesh’s project to put Oxfordshire “on the map”. Nikhilesh introduces his ambitious project below:
Help put Oxfordshire on the “digital” map
What this project is about:
In 2011 Google launched “Street View | Trusted” for Oxfordshire under “Google My Business” programme, which allowed photographers to showcase business interiors using their popular Street View 360° virtual tour technology. Since becoming a certified photographer, I have photographed many places of interest and businesses in Oxfordshire. Currently I have a growing collection of about 130 historic churches, 60+ businesses, 25 play areas & 44 places of interest. Realising the potential of this collection, after 3 years of development, I have now launched my mission to put Oxfordshire “on the map” to raise the profile of the county. The collection is on Google maps and can also be explored using a customised Google map of Oxfordshire at http://oxfordshire.in360degrees.co.uk/
Role of businesses:
Businesses are a major player in this mission. For a small monthly payment, businesses can not only showcase their premises in professional quality imagery & promote themselves on Google but also help promote the best in Oxfordshire to the rest of the world & drive footfall to the area. More importantly it will also help sustain the maintenance and future development of this portal. Churches, play areas, free to use places of interest are photographed for free. Why is this project important?
Traditional marketing needs the digital world to be effective. The new generation is looking for information online. The use of always-online mobile devices is rampant. If Oxfordshire relies only on traditional marketing, it will never be found. The aim of this mission is to ensure Oxfordshire is promoted with professional quality imagery online in order to ensure steady footfall to this beautiful area and help the county prosper.
Based in South Oxfordshire, I have been practising architectural photography since 2004. My main projects are in London and overseas, but I was looking for opportunities to do work in support of the local community. Certifying as a Google photographer was a natural progression for me and a perfect opportunity to showcase the ambience of Oxfordshire's built & natural environment. However, I found that a very small percentage of businesses & places of interest were making use of this powerful digital marketing tool. I realised that if the majority of local businesses & places of interest used this tool to improve & enhance their web presence, it would mean a major improvement in footfall to the area.
