Our Occupational Therapists (OTs), led by Neale Conner, are experts in how illness, injury and disability affect people’s functions. They use activity to assess function and aim to maximise independence, quality of life and help regain roles in the individual's daily lives. Our OTs work across all the services offered by Sobell House Hospice and work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
The Occupational Therapy service can be contacted on 01865 225 871. All patients referred to occupational therapy services for assessment and support must already be under the care of Sobell House Hospice and a referral for assessment should be made when:
- Patients are having functional problems impacting upon their daily activities and emotional wellbeing. This can include personal care, loss of function, fatigue, shortness of breath management, mobility, cognition, postural management and social inclusion issues
- Patients needing support when they are discharged from the hospice including rehabilitation support and provision of equipment
- Support is needed to prevent an admission, or support a patient to be cared for at home
Our physiotherapists are part of the multidisciplinary team working closely together to provide holistic assessments of individual needs at Sobell House. Through the provision of appropriate mobility aids, promotion of physical activity and access to specialist equipment and advice, the physiotherapy team promotes patients’ independence and maximise function with the aim of improving overall quality of life.
The team are skilled at treating patients with complex needs. We manage patients needing extensive neurological, respiratory and orthopaedic assessment and rehabilitation. We are also experienced in breathlessness and fatigue management, as well as facilitating discharge.
All patients referred to physiotherapy services for assessment and support must be under the care of Sobell House. We offer an exercise class at Sobell House on a weekly basis to both inpatients and outpatients. For more information about this or to refer a patient to the physiotherapy team, please contact us on 01865 225871 or via switchboard.
