Most people are invited to attend an outpatients clinic appointment with one of our palliative medicine doctors or a Sobell specialist nurse when they are first referred. This is so that a full assessment can be made of your condition and together we can plan which of our services will work best for you.
We will ask your GP, or the nurse or doctor making the referral, how mobile you are and if you are fit to travel. Most of our clinics are based at Sobell House, with other outreach clinics at Bicester, Witney, Didcot or Wallingford. We will generally try to offer you an outpatient appointment at the nearest clinic to your home, or we will try and make other alternative arrangements such as seeing you at your GP’s surgery or at a local community hospital in your locality should that be necessary.
You will be contacted and given the time and place of your first appointment. Each appointment lasts from 30 minutes to an hour and you are welcome to bring along a close family member or friend.
If you need to contact us about an outpatient clinic appointment already arranged for you please contact the Community Palliative Care Team weekdays 9am to 5pm at Sobell House on 0800 276 1484 (free from a BT landline) or 01865 225 887. Alternatively call the Sobell House main switchboard on 01865 225 860.
