Our volunteers are highly valued for their effective team work, willingness to learn and develop, flexibility in adapting to the needs of the hospice and their commitment to their roles.
Sobell House volunteer receptionists provide a welcoming and informed first point of contact at Sobell House.
Volunteers undertake a variety of tasks within this role, from welcoming visitors and dealing with enquiries, to answering telephone calls, and undertaking general administration.
Volunteers assist on the main reception between 9.00am - 12.30pm or 12.30pm - 4.00pm, Monday - Friday. Volunteers are required on the ward reception 9.00am – 8.00pm, Monday - Sunday. Volunteers usually undertake their role once a week for four hours.

There are a variety of opportunities for volunteers to undertake administrative roles within Sobell House, from assisting in the Study Centre, the Charity Office, or within Lymphoedema. Volunteers may assist staff with such tasks as preparing for events, organising files or distributing packages.
We are also looking for volunteers to assist with collecting feedback on patient and carer experiences of Sobell House and to undertake questionnaire analysis.
Volunteers generally assist with administration Monday - Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm and usually undertake their role once a week.
Sobell House volunteer gardeners assist in maintaining the peaceful and colourful Hospice gardens which are thoroughly enjoyed by the patients, visitors, and staff of Sobell House.
Volunteers undertake a variety of tasks within this role, from weeding, planting, and pruning, to potting plants, and generally keeping the gardens tidy.
The volunteer gardening role is very flexible, and available 9.00am ‑ 5.00pm, Monday - Sunday.
Volunteers usually undertake their role once a week.
There are additional volunteering roles within Sobell House which support staff throughout the Hospice. These activities may be connected to ensuring that the necessary stock is in place on the ward to cleaning and preparing equipment for the occupation therapists.
These roles are generally undertaken by volunteers Monday ‑ Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm, once a week.
There are many ways companies can get involved with supporting Sobell House. The Charity Office can offer roles on both short-term projects and on-going work. This could include activities such as gardening projects or selling raffle tickets.
