Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Aoife Lowney

Dr Aoife Lowney is a consultant in palliative medicine in Oxford where she is engaged in a funded initiative aimed at improving the care of patients dying in acute hospitals. A graduate of University College Cork, she trained in Palliative Medicine in Ireland and was awarded a Masters in the Science of Palliative Medicine from Kings College London. Her original published work is concerned with the subject of Renal Palliative Medicine and she has enjoyed platform oral presentations in Canada, the USA, and Europe on the subject of symptom burden and health-related quality of life in patients on long-term haemodialysis therapy. She has won the Irish Association of Palliative Care annual research award for this work as well as the All Ireland Cancer Pain Bursary for a paper outlining the challenges associated with the use of opioids in renal impairment.
