Who’s Who in the Fundraising team

Libby AleyLibby Aley

Hi, I’m Libby. I am originally from Oxfordshire and have always been aware of the work that goes on here at Sobell House and learnt first-hand in 2007 just what a wonderful place it is as my Mum was looked after here so beautifully for the last 3 weeks of her life.

I started working for the fundraising team here at Sobell House at the end of 2016, after working in Private Banking. I have a degree in Fine Art and wanted to channel my creative flair and passion for people by moving in to the charity sector. I’m really looking forward to working with the community and I’ll be on the lookout for Sobell Ambassadors to help me in my mission of raising awareness and funds for the amazing work that continually goes on at Sobell House.

If you are thinking of organising any type of event to raise money for Sobell House please let me know and I will do my very best to support you.

I’m Kevin and I’ve been with the charity now for almost 12 years.

In addition to being the lottery manager I also look after our more sporty supporters. Runners, riders, swimmers, surfers, trekkers, hikers and everything else in between. If your fundraising plans are likely to get you out of breath then I can offer support with your fundraising and training.

Oh and I also organise a little event called the Moonlight Stroll.

If you think 2017 is going to be the year you take on a life changing challenge or just want to get a little healthier I’d like to hear from you.

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Corporate Partnerships Manager for Sobell House. I am delighted to join the team here and I bring experience from the corporate world having worked in the financial sector for over 20 years. In 2010 I decided to make a big career change and since then have worked for a children’s hospice and a medical research charity.

Please do get in touch if you would like to support the care taking place here, I would love to hear from you.

The 40 Club

Dominique CadiouDominique Cadiou

I was born in France and came to England in the 80s.  I lived in Frome, Somerset, when I got involved with a brand new charity called Action on Disability & Development, an organisation pushing for equal rights for disabled in developing countries. They needed a French speaker to help translate for their colleague going to Rwanda so I was in! Over a ten year period, I went from part-time translator to head of fundraising; I got to travel across Africa and learned everything I know about fundraising.  I like to think that the funds that I helped raise made a long-lasting difference to the lives of the disabled people we were trying to help.

With my husband and our two sons we lived overseas ourselves for 10 years working for various development organisations mostly in the human rights arena.  Jon joined Oxfam at some point and we came to Oxford in 2004.   Since then I have run a couple of capital campaigns for different charities,  refreshed and perfected my knowledge of UK Trusts and Foundations and tried to learn the ropes of major gift fundraising.  I am still learning.  Fundraising is a lifelong learning experience. Each relationship is unique.   I joined Sobell House in September 2012 as Head of Fundraising & Communications, after my very good friend Rachel died in our care.  I am proud to be working for such a reputable organisation and determined to help it grow its service as the need is undoubtedly there.

Without our support team, Linda Andrews and Winsome Bygrave, we would not be able to keep track of the generous donations that we receive.

Winsome is an avid baker and we are regularly blown away by her wonderful cakes and decorations here in the office. She is also our Gift Aid and direct debit guru. Linda is really hands on creatively and helps tremendously with the larger events such as our infamous moonlight stroll and lights of love. She also looks after our  lovely volunteers in the office, assigning them jobs to do and supporting them daily.

Between them, they enter all fundraising donations and Sobell supporters on to our database and prepare many of the thank you letters and generally make sure the money goes to the right place and that everything is reconciled properly. This makes it possible for the fundraisers to track progress in different campaigns and income streams, which is so important!
